Visiting Professor Round

The Visiting Professor Program is a core academic initiative of the Interdepartmental Division of Critical Care Medicine (IDCCM), bringing leading scholars from across North America and internationally to engage with our faculty and trainees. Scheduled throughout the academic year, the program provides opportunities for intellectual exchange, mentorship, and collaboration across a broad range of critical care and related disciplines.

Invited Visiting Professors deliver a keynote lecture at departmental grand rounds, meet with faculty and trainees, and participate in scholarly discussions that foster cross-institutional collaboration. The program reflects the diverse strengths of the IDCCM, highlighting excellence in scientific discovery, clinical research, educational scholarship, leadership, and quality improvement.

The scope of the program is intentionally broad. Visiting Professors may include internationally recognized scientists, physician-scientists, and PhD-trained investigators advancing biomedical research and patient outcomes, as well as leaders in education and quality improvement whose work enhances teaching, learning, and the delivery of high-quality, safe, and equitable care.

Through these visits, the program aims to:

  • Support cross-disciplinary dialogue and collaboration
  • Provide trainees and early-career faculty with access to mentorship and external perspectives
  • Highlight emerging developments across clinical, translational, and educational domains
  • Strengthen institutional partnerships nationally and internationally

By bringing together diverse perspectives across research, education, and healthcare improvement, the Visiting Professor Program contributes to a dynamic academic environment that supports learning, innovation, and high-quality patient care.
