IDCCM Scholar Program
The goal of the IDCCM Scholars Program is to provide support and recognition for future research leaders in critical care. This program is for young investigators in the IDCCM who have recent faculty appointments.
The program provides:
- Research support (operating funds) to facilitate early career research;
- Guaranteed participation to present a faculty talk at CCCF each year of their tenure.
For additional information regarding the program, please contact Dr. Hannah Wunsch (hannah.wunsch@sunnybrook.ca)
IDCCM Scholar 2020: Dr. Barbara Haas
IDCCM is pleased to announce and congratulate Dr. Barbara Haas as being selected as an IDCCM Scholar, for 2021! She was selected among several very strong applications by an independent jury.
The IDCCM Scholars Program is to provide support and recognition for future research leaders in critical care. This represents a highly prestigious nomination. The focus of Dr. Haas’ research tackles a unique but extremely important area: understanding the impact of critical illness due to acute injury on long-term clinical and patient-centred outcomes. She has secured CIHR funds as PI on her proposed research focus. Number of peer reviewed papers since faculty appointment in 2016; 8 first or senior author publications, 13 middle author publications. Three CIHR operating grants as principal or co-principal investigator in last few years (>750,000$); 3 grants as co-investigator. She has received numerous education awards.
IDCCM Scholar 2018: Dr. Ewan Goligher
IDCCM is pleased to announce and congratulate Dr. Ewan Goligher as being the second Toronto IDCCM Scholar, for 2018!
He was selected among several very strong applications by an independent jury.
The IDCCM Scholars Program is to provide support and recognition for future research leaders in critical care. This represents a highly prestigious nomination.
His research program focuses on patient-ventilator interaction and mechanisms of lung and diaphragm injury during mechanical ventilation with the goal of improving ventilation strategies to enhance patient outcomes.
IDCCM Scholar 2017: Dr. Elizabeth Wilcox
IDCCM is pleased to announce and congratulate Dr. Elizabeth Wilcox as being the first Toronto IDCCM Scholar for 2017!
She was selected among several very strong applications by an independent jury.
The IDCCM Scholars Program is to provide support and recognition for future research leaders in critical care. This represents a highly prestigious nomination.
Dr. Wilcox’s primary research focus at this time is investigating mechanisms for newly acquired brain injury after acute illness. She is the lead investigator for the COGWELL study, a multicentre longitudinal study of survivors of mechanical ventilation (≥3 days of mechanical ventilation) across the trajectory of recovery from ICU to the community. The study characterizes electrophysiological, sleep, and molecular domains to investigate risk factors for long-term cognitive impairment in ICU survivors.
