Alliance Day
The IDCCM Alliance is an initiative of the IDCCM research executive that is designed to foster collaborative research groups across adult and pediatric ICU research groups across the University of Toronto.
Our inaugural Alliance meeting - held on March 7, 2018 at the Munk School of Global Affairs - encouraged collaborative groupings focused on Building and Managing City-wide databases for the IDCCM (Drs. Fan, Amaral and Matwe) and City-wide IDCCM Pediatric-Adult Neurocritical Care group led by Drs. Victoria McCredie and Anne-Marie Guerguerian. A highlight of this meeting was the presentation of the Yearly Humanitarian Award and we were delighted that Dr. Laura Hawryluck was the 2018 recipient of this important distinction. We had some excellent featured speakers including Dr. Nicolas Hart and Dr. Beverley Orser.

Topic: Equity in Critical Care Medicine in 2026
Keynote Speaker: Dr. Katie Hauschildt
Dr. Katie Hauschildt is a medical sociologist, health services researcher, and assistant professor in the division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine at Oregon Health & Science University. Her research leverages rigorous qualitative methods and user-centred inquiry to identify structural factors that contribute to inequitable care and poorer healthcare experiences and outcomes, with the goal of identifying pragmatic opportunities to improve equitable care delivery and the experiences of patients, families, and clinicians.

Keynote Speaker: Robinder Khemani, MD
Dr. Robinder G. Khemani MD, MsCI, is the Vice Chair of Research, Department of Anesthesiology Critical Care Medicine at the Children's Hospital Los Angeles; Professor of Pediatrics, Clinical Scholar, Keck School of Medicine of USC.
In addition to his medical degree, he has a Master’s degree in Clinical Investigation from the University of Southern California, and undergraduate training in Statistics and Math. He has been recognized locally and nationally for his research, teaching, and mentorship of fellows, junior faculty, and multi-disciplinary trainees.
