Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) Fellowship

The Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) Fellowship at Toronto General Hospital is now accepting applications for upcoming fellowship training positions.

The Toronto General CVICU is a 27-bed, high-acuity unit jointly managed by the Divisions of Cardiovascular Anesthesia and Cardiovascular Surgery at the University Health Network and operating in collaboration with the Interdepartmental Division of Critical Care Medicine at the University of Toronto.

As a national quaternary referral centre, the unit provides exposure to an exceptionally broad spectrum of advanced cardiovascular critical care, including:

• Routine cardiac surgery (coronary artery bypass grafting [CABG], valve surgery, septal myectomy)
Complex aortic and mitral surgery
Cardiac transplantation
Mechanical circulatory support (biventricular assist device [BiVAD], TandemHeart
®, durable ventricular assist devices [VAD]s)
Minimally invasive cardiac surgery
Complex adult congenital cardiac revisions and repairs
• Cardiogenic and circulatory shock

In Spring 2026, the unit will also be expanding its mechanical circulatory support program with the addition of Veno-Arterial (VA) extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), further enhancing fellowship training opportunities in advanced shock management and extracorporeal support.

The fellowship offers high-volume clinical exposure, multidisciplinary collaboration, and opportunities for academic development, quality improvement, and education within one of North America’s leading cardiovascular centres.

Physicians with an interest in cardiogenic shock, advanced cardiovascular critical care, cardiac anesthesia, or cardiac surgery related critical care are encouraged to inquire.
